General Phases of Diet After GI Surgery

1. Clear Liquid Diet

Started soon after surgery.

Includes:

* Water

* Coconut water

* Oral rehydration solutions

 

Purpose: Prevent dehydration and allow bowel rest.

 

2. Full Liquid Diet

Introduced once bowel sounds return.

Includes:

* Milk

3. Soft / Semi-Solid Diet
